43_49_1c0a7abc1d89391Chökhor Düchen, the ‘Festival of Turning the Wheel of Dharma’. It occurs on the fourth day of the sixth Tibetan lunar month. For seven weeks after his enlightenment, Buddha did not teach. Finally, encouraged by Indra and Brahma, he turned the Wheel of Dharma for the first time, at Sarnath, by teaching the ‘Four Noble Truths’.

The Rime Center will be hosting a series of Shakyamuni Buddha Pujas and open meditation sessions as an opportunity for you to come in and meditate throughout the day at your own pace and time limit. Continue reading

We enthusiastically welcome back Lama Lena to the Rime Center on June 24th through June 26th. Lama Lena will be teaching on Padmasambhava’s The Treasure of the Lotus Crystal Cave: The Direct Instruction of Shri Singha. Lama Lena is a highly accomplished yogini in the Dzogchen tradition who will guide us through very clear and accurate Dzogchen teachings. Tsalung trulkor is a practice that works intensively with our subtle body. By combining special breath retention techniques with physical movements and visualizations, we move our wind-energy throughout the body, allowing it to reach deep places and open more and more subtle channels.  It is said that tsalung trulkor is a wonderful daily practice,
especially to control and handle the stress of our modern life in society. It has the power to balance the energies of mind and body, and it also helps enormously to support one’s meditation practices.

Chotrul Düchen, the ‘Festival of Miracles’

43_49_1c0a7abc1d89391Chotrul Düchen occurs on the full moon (the fifteenth day) of the first Tibetan month, which is called Bumgyur Dawa. The first fifteen days of the year celebrate the fifteen days on which, in order to increase the merit and the devotion of future disciples, Buddha displayed a different miracle.

Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara) is said to be the essence of the speech of all the buddhas and incarnation of their compassion. As one of the Eight Great Close Sons, he is usually depicted as white in colour and holding a lotus. An Invitation To Our Special Event on Dec. 31st

Dear Rime Members and Friends:

For the past 20 years it has been my pleasure to serve as both spiritual and executive directors of the Rime Buddhist Center. As many of you know I will be retiring at the end of this year.

I’d like to invite you to a very special event being held at the Rime Buddhist Center and it will be my last official duty before I retire.

The event is the 30th annual “Meditation for World Peace.” This amazing interfaith event will feature prayers of peace by each of the 15 different faith traditions represented on the Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council. A highlight of the event will be the presentation of the Bodhisattva Award. The Bodhisattva Award is presented to those who work for the benefit of others. State greetings will be given by The Honorable Dr. Charles B. Wheeler, former Missouri State Senator. Former Mayor Pro Tem Alvin Brooks will give community greetings. This year’s event is endorsed and co-sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee – Kansas City Program and the Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council. The event is free and open to the public. This year’s keynote speaker will be Kansas City Mayor Sly James. Continue reading

30th Annual World Peace Meditation

Sufi TurningThe Rime Buddhist center will host the 30th Annual World Peace Meditation, an interfaith gathering, on Thursday, December 31, at 6:00 a.m. (*please arrive by 5:30 a.m.). The program will consist of religious observances from various cultures and faith traditions including Native American smudging, Tibetan Buddhist chanting and meditation, Christian prayer, devotional music, Sufi dancing, and the Muslim “call to prayer.” Continue reading
